For high-load machines, check the back of the machine and remove the casing to repair the water pump filter. Remove the filter, pay attention to whether you need to remove small objects such as coins, keys, or hair, and then use a small brush to remove excess debris from the filter. Before replacing, soak the filter in a mixture of hot water and dishwashing liquid for ten minutes.

4. Disinfect the washing machine drum

Fill the bucket with ½ cup of baking soda and a quart of vinegar, and perform a washing cycle that contains only a few clean towels (many manufacturers recommend not to completely empty the washing machine). Use the hottest water setting, maximum load and longest wash cycle. When the cycle is running, wipe the outside of the machine with a cloth soaked in vinegar, and scrub the smaller corners and gaps with a small brush.
